Here is some info you might want to know about getting your puppy: We accept reservations for future puppies with a $200. deposit that can be paid by cash (in person), check, paypal or cashapp. Just contact us for details. We take photos and let you choose your puppy at 3-4 weeks old. We do not allow you to handle the puppies until they are over 5 weeks old. The Collie puppies will be ready to go home with you at 8 weeks old (the Havanese at 9 weeks)
We and our dogs live on a beautiful farmette near Millersburg, Ohio.
You are welcome to come visit us and our dogs on most Saturdays or Tuesdays. Just contact us for an appointment and directions.
Most of our Collie puppies weigh between 6-10 Lb when you get them, but will grow to 45-65 LB within 1.5 years. (Havanese are 3-5LB and grow to 8-12LB) They are not house broken, crate or leash trained yet. When you come to pick up your puppy, we try to give you 20-30 min with us and the puppy, to answer all your questions. They will already have had their breakfast and plenty of water. We try to pamper them a bit and get them freshened up before the car ride.
No masks are required at our house. Ground delivery may be possible in some situations for a small fee, just ask if you desire.
What to bring with you when you come or meet us to get your puppy: A collar, a leash, some towels or rags, water. Cash for the balance due. Optional: a dish and kennel or pet carrier.
What we will give you with your puppy: 2+ days of puppy food, their first toy, a food bowl, a blanket with mother’s scent, AKC registration paperwork, Vet certification, current medical schedule (up to date on shots and dewormer), and various info.
Some puppies may lose their breakfast on their first ride in a car. Please plan on them getting a bit messy, as well as you, if you are holding them. We recommend driving 30-60 min, then stopping for a 10-15 min break, offering them water, then stopping every hour, for the most comfortable experience for you and your puppy. We do not recommend giving them any food on the trip, until you get home, unless that is over 5 hours. If you will be crossing state lines, please check on each state’s laws. If you need any additional paperwork or shots, etc, we will be willing to help, but for an additional fee.
First night: Unless you plan to let your puppy sleep in bed with someone, he/she will likely have some anxiety issues for the first few nights. It may sound cruel, but the more you can leave him/her alone for the night in their own room or kennel, the quicker things will calm down. It usually takes 2-5 nights till they can sleep without missing their mother and siblings bad enough to cry a bit. It is best to leave water, and toy and the blanket we provide with them for the night. There are lots of recommendations to help ease everyone’s stress online…
AKC paperwork: Your puppy already is registered with the AKC and has an ID number it will use for life. However, the registration is in our name as the breeder, and without a name for the puppy, just an ID number. You can keep the paperwork and you do not have to do anything else. But if you want him/her registered under your name with the pet name you pick out, you have the forms to do that by mail or online. You can also request an official pedigree at the same time. Total price varies by the package you get. Most of our puppies come with full registration (unless we talked about a special situation) so that means you have breeding rights, or the option of fixing. It is all up to you. We find them a little calmer in the long run if you fix them between 6-12 months, if you don’t ever want them to breed, especially the males.
Food Recommendations: We use the retriever brand puppy food. They will transition well to any puppy food you want to give them. We add a raw egg to ½ cup of dry puppy chow for breakfast, and a spoonful of plain yogurt to ½ cup of dry puppy chow for supper, and give them access to unlimited dry food all day. (less for the Havanese) Please feed them the food we give you for the first 24 hours, and then mix it 50/50 with the food you want to feed them for a few days, before going on the new food. If they don’t eat much or any for 24 hours it is no problem, if over that you will want to work with them, and if over 48 hours, you may need a vet or other help. (very uncommon) By the time they are over 25LB or 5 months, we would only give them dry puppy food, and then switch to adult puppy chow after 18 months, or 45LB.
Medical: You puppy will be up to date on dewormer and vaccinations. We recommend you schedule your first vet visit between 1 and 2 weeks after you pick them up, for the next set of shots, and to work with your vet to get them on a good dewormer schedule. The schedule varies so much, that we recommend you talk to you vet or do your own research, but here is what we try to do: 5 way puppy shot at 6-7 weeks old 9 way dog vaccine at 9, 12 and 15 weeks, then once a year after that. Pyrantel Pamoate at 2, 4, 6 & 8 weeks old, then at 3 and 4 months (unless already doing another more complete dewormer) Safe-Guard at 5 and 7 weeks, and then every 6 months after that (unless already doing another more complete dewormer) Rabies vaccine between 4-6 months old (depending on your local laws and recommendations) We start all our dogs on a monthly pill of Sentinel Spectrum at 4 month old (that covers heartworms, most parasites, internal and external, including fleas) (Collies cannot tolerate some other brands of heart wormer and anti-parasite meds, so make sure you talk to your vet) Puppies tend to have issues with different worms for the first 3 months, and we find this combination usually takes care of it, but if you puppy loses weight or has diarrhea for more than 48 hours, you may need to take it to the vet for more help.
Our health guarantee is 10/60 day: (none of these things has ever happened or been needed, we just need to put it in writing) 😊 If your puppy has any medical problems within 10 days, we will either replace your puppy, take the puppy back and refund your money, or help with medical bills of up to the amount you paid us. This does not include any accidents or parasite issues, as they are common, and usually not severe if you follow our deworming recommendations, or your vet’s. If your puppy has any verified genetic issues that cause problems in the first 60 days, we will either take your puppy back and refund your money, or help with medical issues up to the amount you paid us, by our discretion, according to the situation.
If for any reason you cannot keep your puppy, we may be willing to buy him/her back at our discretion, at up to half the price you paid.
If you have any questions at any time, we are here for you, just email, text or call.
